 Welcome!
The Douglas County/Days Creek School District 15, with schools in Tiller and Days Creek, Oregon, is large in geography and small in population. The western boundary is only three miles off of I-5 but extends to the east another fifty miles along the strikingly beautiful South Umpqua River. With only 250 students district-wide K - 12, our students benefit from small classes and teachers who know them well. |
Tiller Elementary, designated as a small, remote rural school, has a student population of 55 in grades K-7 and is served by four full-time teachers and three full-time aides. Numerous field trips provide enrichment opportunities while several showcase events through the year allow the public to see the accomplishments of Tiller students. The results of state testing designate Tiller as one of the top-performing elementary schools in the state - particularly outstanding when compared to other schools with similar economic challenges. TILLER ELEMENTARY EARNED AN "EXCEPTIONAL" RATING ON THE OREGON SCHOOL REPORT CARD. Congratulations Tiller staff, parents, and students! | |
DAYS CREEK CHARTER SCHOOL IS A BRONZE AWARD WINNER IN THE U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT SEARCH FOR AMERICA'S BEST HIGH SCHOOLS! Congratulations staff, parents, and students.
Days Creek Charter School, serving 190 students with innovative programs in grades 6 - 12 and open enrollment, has attracted over 100 students from neighboring districts. Students at Days Creek enjoy the advantages of a small, rural secondary school with an average class size of 20 students, increased individual attention, and a sense of family while they also enjoy access to a comprehensive curriculum enhanced by online courses and community partnerships. The support of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, Mercy Foundation, Lilja Foundation, Ford Family Foundation, Oregon Community Foundation, other philanthropic organizations, local businesses, community fundraising, private donations, patron volunteers, federal grants, state grants, and the community has helped to create a thriving educational environment. We offer a high-quality 21st century education in a small school environment. |
The Days Creek Charter School video production program is state-of-the-art and prepares students for careers in the field. Our metal arts program creates and markets Western silhouette art. The crime scene investigations course provides motivating applications of science skills. Elective courses in cooking, sewing, foreign language, jounalism, band, business, horticulture, shop, agriculture, art, tech, and crafts provide many opportunities in small groups. Academic opportunities include a comprehensive college prep program with four years of English required and advanced courses in chemistry, physics, and mathematics including calculus. Tuition-free dual credit courses are offered by Umpqua Community College through which students complete under-grad credits that also contribute to high school graduation requirements. Students are supported by the ASPIRE program for post-secondary planning. All students accepted into a community college or university by the end of their senior year, AND get the application in on time, will receive a scholarship from Dollars for Scholars. |
Additional student support is provided by a guidance counselor, a career counselor, a school nurse, and an amazing food service program. Ask our students what they like best about Days Creek Charter School and they usually say, "THE FOOD!" Meals from scratch with careful nutritional balance and portion control include offerings such as quinoa and black bean salad - and the kids love it! A student-led recycling program supported by Oregon Green Schools encourages environmental responsibility. Many sports are offered to students including middle and high school volleyball, middle and high school football, middle and high school basketball, middle and high school track, and high school cross-country, wrestling, baseball, softball, and cheerleading. Over 70% of our students in grades 6 through 12 are involved in school sports. |

We are small but we are mighty. The staff and administration of the Douglas Co School District 15 strongly believe in rural education - knowing small schools offer the best learning environment possible. We are committed to making our schools the best of the best. You are welcome to contact our superintendent, Laurie Newton, for information regarding enrollment and programs by calling 541.825.3296. |

these vaccine-preventable diseases unnecessarily exposing school children and
their siblings to their complications.
Strict enforcement of Oregon's school immunization
law will help eliminate this threat. The minimum number of immunizations
required for school entry are:
VACCINE:

Measles/Mumps/Rubella 2
Hepatitis-B
